The first is a review of previous publications of the "Vessels in the Region of the Mesencephalon" between 1940 and 1968. This is followed by a section devoted to the normal anatomy of the vascular channels in this region and one devoted to a description of the vascular angiographic changes due to tumors in the region of the mesencephalon. The angiographic changes of tumors of the pineal region, of the posterior thalamus, and of the cerebral peduncles are particularly well treated. Other entities such as ependymomas of the third ventricle, tentorial meningiomas, and hydrocephalus are less well covered. The concluding section, which covers more than 100 pages, is a series of examples and diagrams illustrating the normal and pathological anatomy of the region. There are 128 excellent, well labeled, illustrations. The authors have used subtraction techniques and artists tracings to illustrate a variety
