To the Editor. —In the letter "Migraineur, or Migraineuse?" and its answer, in the November 1988 issue of the Archives,1 Drs Jonas and Leviton discussed whether migraineur or migraineuse must be used when referring to all of the migraine population, which contains a majority of women.We do not agree with Dr Jonas' use of the French language. He cannot use migraineuse in all migraine groups; this word can exclusively be used in groups entirely free of men... as in Dr Leviton's study. The masculine gender is required every time that at least one man is present in a group, whatever the number of women. Moreover, migraineur is not a French word. We use migraineux for a man or for a group, and migraineuse(s) for a woman or for a group of women. Contrary to Dr Leviton's opinion migraineuse can be used as a noun as well as an
