To the Editor.  —We were interested in the controversy between Ryalls1 and Ross2 regarding prosody and the right hemisphere, and their final coming to terms. It may be pertinent to report our experience in the matter. We recently replicated3 the first three of four experiments employed by Weintraub et al4 to show that damage to the right hemisphere affects prosody in a generalized manner. In a series of 21 patients with right hemisphere lesions and 16 control subjects, we failed to obtain statistically significant differences between the two groups, although a tendency to worse performance on the part of the patients was noted in all three experiments. A remarkable difference between Weintraub's series and ours emerged, however, and may have to do with cultural factors. The mean performance of our control subjects was much worse than that of their control subjects. The achievement of the control subjects
