The editors have again produced an excellent text with their second edition of The Practice of Pediatric Neurology. This multiauthored, two-volume book draws on the experience of many well-known child neurologists. Topics are covered with detail and numerous references are cited. On the whole, the text is well written and well organized, and it is augmented by good-quality pictures, diagrams, and tables.
The organization of the text is much like that of the first edition. The first section discusses history, physical examination, and laboratory testing as they pertain to children with neurologic problems. This section is high-lighted by an excellent presentation of the neuro-ophthalmologic examination and abnormalities in children—a new feature of the second edition. A good discussion of CSF examination is again included. The section on EEG has been considerably expanded and covers many aspects of neonatal EEGs, and a chapter on neuroradiology has been added.
